» God is the Great I Am
In Exodus 3, Moses has an incredible experience with God. Moses sees this bush that is burning, but it is not consumed. God speaks to him from the burning bush. God speaks to him an amazing truth in verse 14. “And God said to moses, ‘I Am Who I Am’. And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I Am has sent me to you’.” God is the great I Am. This name for God expresses His self-existence and the unchangeableness of His character. He transcends the past, the present, and the future. He has always been, He is, and He will always be. As the Great I Am, He never changes; He will never leave us nor forsake us. I’m reminded of the great hymn that says: “Change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me.”
